The pastries at are still good, but the cooked breakfasts have gone downhill. The doughnut was still light and fluffy with a good firm custard inside.

The sardines on the otherhand, while just cooked, didn’t have any charring from the grill, almost as if it had been poached! It did have a crunchy breadcrumb sprinklings of pangrattato, but that was devoid of any garlic flavour, which would have helped balance the fishiness. The eggplant relish was quite heavy with cardamom, and that didn’t suit the sardines either. Perhaps this would have been better as an escabeche with sweet and sour onions.

The grilled sourdough was great though. I do love the bread at Il Fornaio!

I wonder if the bistro is still doing inventive dishes at lunch and dinner? They used to have amazing items like the Fig and Basil wrapped with Prosciutto with Olive Oil and Vincotto or Pork Chops with Roquefort Butter and Fat Fries. Or even yummy breakfasts like Poached Pear and Blue Mascarpone on Sourdough Toast!
